Glaube – Wahrheit – Toleranz
Abstract
Sind Toleranz und Glaube an offenbarte Wahrheit Gegen- sätze? Anders gewendet: Sind christlicher Glaube und Moderni- tät vereinbar? Wenn zu den Grundlagen der Neuzeit die Toleranz gehört, ist dann die Behauptung, die wesentliche Wahrheit er- kannt zu haben, nicht eine überholte Anmaßung, die abgewiesen werden muß, wenn die Spirale der Gewalt abgebrochen werden soll, die die Religionsgeschichte durchzieht? Diese Frage stellt sich in der Begegnung zwischen dem Christentum und der Welt heute immer dramatischer, und immer weiter breitet sich die Überzeugung aus, daß der Verzicht auf den Wahrheitsanspruch des christlichen Glaubens die Grundbedingung für einen neuen Weltfrieden, die Grundbedingung für die Versöhnung von Chris-tentum und Modernität sei.
